Introduction
Deploying Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) on premise was the only choice for Oracle customers in the past. Many customers of Oracle E-Business Suite customers, continue to run their applications on premises or in a private cloud and have a large setup in protecting this investment.
This whitepaper provides an overview of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and a reference architecture for deploying EBS on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. We will explain the benefits of running Oracle E-Business suite on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and describe various use cases.
What is Oracle E-Business Suite on Oracle Cloud?
You can think of running Oracle E-Business Suite on Oracle Cloud as running exactly the same Oracle E-Business Suite applications that you run on-premises in your datacenter today – the same E-Business Suite applications you may have customized – on a combination of Oracle’s Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) offerings.
• Infrastructure: The Oracle Compute Cloud Service part of IaaS provides a highly scalable, competitively-priced compute capacity that can be used to host your application tier and (optionally) your database tier.
• Infrastructure + Database: The Database Cloud Service part of PaaS can be used to run your database tier, allowing you to provision your chosen database configuration quickly and easily.
• Infrastructure + Database + Application Management: Optionally, you can get assistance with Oracle E-Business Suite applications and database management by deploying managed services on top of the infrastructure and platform services:
Oracle Managed Cloud Services (OMCS) manages your Oracle E-Business Suite environment on Oracle Cloud. The complete lifecycle management provided by this service includes patching, cloning, and regular technical/functional updates, along with an industry-leading application availability SLA. [OMCS will also keep you up-to-date with the most recent security patches and latest product releases, so that you can both remain secure and benefit from the newest innovations.]
Alternatively, you can choose a partner to run your applications and perform applications DBA tasks such as patching and cloning, as well as upgrades and technology updates.
Why you should with Oracle E-Business Suite on Oracle Cloud
Cloud deployments of Oracle E-Business Suite provide an array of benefits, both from an IT and a business perspective.
Support Growth
Running Oracle E-Business Suite on Oracle Cloud enables you to subscribe to the surge capacity that you need for new projects
without worrying about data center space, capital purchases of new servers and storage, and additional system administration labor.
You simply subscribe to the additional capacity you need, when you need to.
Lower Cost of Application Ownership
When you need to deploy new capacity or you have obsolete equipment in your data center, you can subscribe to that capacity out of your
operating budget rather than acquiring new servers and storage as a capital expense. Taking advantage of Oracle’s ability to
economically scale up capacity costs less than maintaining your own data center and working at the scale of an individual
company.
Increase Business Agility
Stay current with the yearly innovations in the application and more readily uptake new capabilities to support your business,
without waiting for the acquisition of new infrastructure for development and test environments.
Optimum Resource utilization
Reduced administration overhead. Several automated Oracle tools on Cloud help in cutting down IT personnel workload.
Reduced Risk
Enterprise grade secured global infrastructure to meet Industry compliance requirements. Built in Oracle data center disaster
recovery can be leveraged very easily.
Oracle E-Business Suite Architecture on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
E-Business Suite can be run in a single availability domain or multiple availability domains.

Multiple-Availability-Domain, Single-Region Architecture
E-Business Suite can be run in a single availability domain or multiple availability domains.

Architectural Details
Traffic management:
Two Oracle Cloud Infrastructure load balancers are used in this architecture: a public load balancer and a private load balancer. The public one manages traffic from the public internet, and the private one manages traffic from the customer’s network to the application servers.
High availability:
Each application server is placed in a separate fault domain to increase the overall availability of the application servers if hardware fails.
Database:
A quarter-rack (two-node Oracle RAC) Exadata DB system is depicted in this architecture for performance and higher availability. If requirements can be met with other Oracle Database systems, substitute Exadata with an Oracle Cloud Infrastructure VM or bare metal DB system.
Disaster recovery:
In the single-availability-domain configuration, disaster recovery (DR) is accomplished by using another region. In the multiple-availability-domain configuration, DR is accomplished by crossing availability domains. The distance between the two availability domains might not meet the site separation requirements for some customers.
Built for scale:
This architecture uses instance pools in the application tiers for both the primary and DR environments. The advantage of using instance pools is that you can start with a smaller footprint and use Oracle Cloud Infrastructure’s autoscaling feature to grow to support more concurrent users.Benefits | ||
